Making of the book 3

My 5th grade watercolor set was not going to make it through to the end of the
book...so...from one new tube of white.... the numbers grew...

and grew...

It made a huge~~~~ difference.
I was working with watercolor without understanding how watercolor works.
yes, the illustrations look as though I was using poster color.
:0

Another thing that made a huge difference is:
I upgraded my #0,1,2 synthetic brushes to~ synthetic/real hair mixed
Wish I had known earlier....

I used the the 2 orange ones 90% of the times for some reason...
With my new brushes came a slight increase in my comfort level.
back to the illustrations~

I had to give up the pink and go with the blue(below)
because I decided on pink for the previous page.

All my illustrations were face-less til the very end.

Once the illustrations were finished~
they were ready to be scanned!

there was a problem.
the paper scanned wrinkled (from the use of water).
:0

So~ I put them all in the freezer at home. (roughly 3hrs)
then... came the stack of books(12 hours+)
They scanned perfectly clean!
BUT...
there were cracks all over the paint.

What I saw on paper.... was not what I saw on the computer.
All the cracks, paint specks, dust smudges..... showed up on screen.

I really wanted to stay away from digital alteration but...
ended up having to spend 2weeks+ on photoscape~ing it.

My wonderful friend gave me the idea of taking a photo of the images.
Unfortunately it didn't work out :( (2weeks of hard work gone :0 )

Back to the original scanning idea.

from photos to scanner at 300~600dpi...
I tried and edited all of them.
this whole process took about 2months extra.

Well... I didn't know what I was doing...  :0

This is where I need to introduce a FAB friend who helped me put it all together.
kind, smart and PATIENT editor/friend at Mango Island.

My dear~dear friend Frits....

You are the best partner I could of ever asked for to work on this book.
Thank you for putting up with my madness.... I must of done something pretty fab to have you in my life. I'm so.. so grateful for our friendship.

When things fall apart... I think of you and I am able to redirect my thoughts to...
feeling better.

I thank you from the depth breadth and height my soul can reach.

Much much much love and gratitude...

Making of the book 2

Most of my illustrations come from the park near my home, the Korean Palaces,
Korean Palace Museums and the Korean Cultural Museum.

I drew what I saw, liked and~~~~~ was capable! of drawing.

National Palace Museum-Queen Young Chin?'s accessories.

I saw this and really loved it so I did my best to draw it.

This guy can be found on the steps of Kyung Book Palace.
He is suppose to 'protect' the palace...
sadly most of the palace was destroyed..
I thought I'd give him a new life
(the blue guy in the illustration below)

Winter hat (silk, fur, corals, pearls and jade)

inspired by the tiger from a Korean folk images I saw as a child.
It's a commonly used image~

My dog has a similar collar. I saw them around and it was
in my head. The above image could be the original version.

 The rock in the water.
I use to sit there and look at the stillness of the water.
One of my 'spots' to practice everyday stillness...
